Morningside Gardens on NPR

Ron Gronen, New York City’s Deputy Commissioner of Sanitation for Recycling and Sustainability, was a guest on WNYC’s Brian Lehrer Show on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, just before noon to talk about our city’s expanding plans for recycling. Among other topics, he mentioned our participation in their pilot program, saying;

“Morningside Gardens has been a shining star for us for multiple reasons. One is … their participation has been exceptional not just in the organics program but also in our textile program, our electronic waste program and traditional recyclables. The other thing we’re really pleased about Morningside Gardens is that sometimes when you roll out progressive environmental programs you get a … little bit of pushback that ‘oh this is only going to work in affulent neighborhoods’ and it’s been really positive to see how much interest there’s been in Morningside Heights and how well Morningside Gardens has performed. They’ve actually been one of our best buildings.”

In case you missed it, the fifteen-minute segment is available for listening as an audio stream here. We are mentioned at the 8 minute 39 second mark.
